Values, Purpose, Vision: Supporting fast growth
Established in 2012, Prime is a fast-growing property management company dedicated to empowering leaseholders and fulfilling their vision of Fair, safe, quality living for all. Whilst we have worked with Prime, the company has grown from c.20 to c.90 team members.
The challenge
Keen to ensure that the organisation held on to its roots as it grew, and to set itself apart from other property management companies, their Director – Laura Jones – initially approached Culture Chameleon to work with them to discover and define their values.
What we did
Purpose, Values and Vision
To ensure Values that Give a D.A.A.M (are Distinctive, Actionable, Authentic and Memorable) – protecting Prime’s legacy, setting it apart from its competitors and enabling it to attract and retain the right team members and customers – our Values discovery and definition process centred around capturing how the organisation shows up when it’s operating at its best. This is based on the concept that when the Values are taken Beyond W.O.W (Words On a Wall), playing out consistently in everything and everyone across the organisation, they intentionally inform a culture that will drive commercial success.
We started with a full-team discovery phase before moving on to a series of co-creation-based workshops. This approach combined the IKEA effect (the idea that a higher value is given to things that people have helped to make), prevented Ivory Tower Syndrome (the perception of a top-down mandate) and ensured that the resulting values would be grounded in the daily reality of all Prime’s stakeholders.
We then supported the leadership team to discover and define Purpose and Vision statements rooted in its origin story, .
Purpose, Values and Vision Launch
After defining Prime’s Culture Code, we supported them with sharing with the team how their collective ideas, perspectives and stories had been distilled into a clear and compelling set of Values. We also helped to share the thinking and stories behind the Purpose and Vision, to ensure these resonated across the organisation.
Beyond W.O.W (Words On a Wall)
Leveraging social proof theory (the concept that team members are more likely to adopt new behaviours as their own when they see leaders and managers role modelling these) and to ensure a ROI on their Culture Code investment, we began the Beyond W.O.W process by taking leaders and managers through our Beyond W.O.W Workshop. This provided them with the tools, and initiated the mindset that would kick start intentional use of the Purpose, Values and Vision to inform a culture that would drive business performance.
Following our ALIGND Methodology, we continue to ride shotgun (one of our Values) with Prime, working to take the Culture Code Beyond W.O.W, weaving it into the employee and customer experience, identifying and addressing any Blockers & Barriers (B&Bs) that may be preventing it from playing out consistently, further developing managers and leaders with a Values-first mindset and supporting them to role model this with their team. Our work is measured both in the day to day small signs and through a half yearly survey which informs a full Culture Dashboard.
The feedback
Laura and Caroline are brilliant. Their passion is contagious, and they have an incredible ability to get people involved and engaged in their process – even those that might be sceptical!
They have been pivotal in transforming our company values and getting our whole team engaged to ensure we are really living our values and they aren’t just words on the wall.
I would recommend Culture Chameleon to any business looking to invest and commit in improving their workplace culture and employee experience. Even when you think you have it all down, the team bring fresh ideas and perspective and give real food for thought.
